Fifth Birthday Celebrations with a Twist
From four to forty staff in just five years – Regina Heffernan has much to celebrate this week as her business, Smart Solutions Rehab Group (SSRG) has a birthday of a different kind and goes from strength to strength even under incredibly challenging times.
‘Drive-through’ celebrations are expected to boost morale of the team at SSRG with each staff member receiving a birthday pack full of treats as they make their way through the business’s Evan street car park as a birthday convoy.
As an accredited NDIS provider, SSRG has continued delivering rehabilitation services to some of our most at-risk community members over the past ten weeks – seniors and to those with significant and permanent disabilities – and now director Ms Heffernan is overjoyed to be able to give back to her staff as part of celebrating the business’s five-year milestone.
“We deliver Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Pathology and a range of allied health services to an average of 1,500 clients every week and since COVID-19 we pivoted our business quickly to retain 90 per cent of these clients through telehealth appointments and ongoing home visits,” said Ms Heffernan.
“Our staff have been working so hard to deliver continuity of service and we are so grateful. It is their professionalism and client-focused care that has helped us through this difficult time now and also helped us build our business over the past five years.”
Ms Heffernan has been a practicing occupational therapist for 22 years and in 2007 she moved to the Sunshine Coast to start Smart Solutions OT. In 2015 she decided to expand to offer full multi-disciplinary offering and now has a clinic in Maroochydore with 14 vehicles on the road servicing clients from Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gympie and to the Fraser Coast.
SSRG pride themselves on not being a ‘standard’ rehabilitation practice but rather deliver client-centred care and focus on assisting individuals to reach their goals and live full and independent lives.
“I have a real appreciation for what each of our professions contributes to the overall health and wellbeing, and functioning of a person and I understand that it isn’t a case of one profession can do it all,” said Ms Heffernan.
“I have always been interested in anatomy and physiology and the concept of rehabilitation. I also love being part of other people’s journeys and doing my part to make their lives better.”
“Most recently we assisted a small boy with Angelman’s syndrome by having a 20-metre ramp and a complete bathroom modification approved through NDIS. The family were so grateful for the difference this has made to their lives and we are delighted to assist in bringing about this change.”
This week, it is time for the SSRG team to celebrate not only an official milestone birthday but also the reopening of their clinic for clients.
“During the COVID-19 restrictions we decided to close our clinic and see our clients both in their homes and through online appointments. We are thrilled to be welcoming clients back in to the clinic where we are of course adhering to the Australian Government’s hygiene safety guidelines,” said Ms Heffernan.
“Our incredible growth over the past five years is thanks to the wonderful support we’ve had from our clients so it is fitting that this is the week we open our doors and welcome them back. We thank the community and our referrers for being part of our journey and contributing to our success.
SSRG is an accredited NDIS provider and offers Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Pathology, Podiatry, Dietetics and Social Work as well as Assistive Technology and Home Modifications.
