Why They Are So Important
What is a Plan Review?
The NDIS requires regular Plan Reviews. This means that all the supports that have been allocated to you in your NDIS Plan are reviewed for ongoing suitability and to ensure that the supports till meet your needs.
How often do Plan Reviews take Place?
Plan reviews generally take place every 12months just prior to the end of your approved plan dates. These are called “scheduled reviews”.
Other reviews can happen throughout the year though and are called “spontaneous reviews”. Spontaneous reviews usually happen if your plan has been found to have significant short falls in the supports that have been allocated to you and you are needing this situation urgently addressed.
What happens at a Plan Review?
A plan review involves meeting with a planner at NDIS and / or the LAC and discussing your NDIS plan. It involves reviewing the supports that have been allocated to you and delivered and monitoring how effective they have been. It also involves looking forward to the year ahead and making decisions about what supports and the level of supports that you need in your next plan.
How is a Plan likely to vary from year to year?
Sometimes NDIS Plans can look very similar year to year, however other times they can look completely different! If the level of funded supports has previously been right for you, then it is likely that a similar schedule of supports will continue. On other occasions, if further needs become apparent (such as a need for Assistive Technology or Home Modifications), or your functional abilities have changed, there may be a need for an increase in your Core, Capital and / or Capacity Building funding.
How can I get the best outcome at a Plan Review?
It’s important to be really prepared for NDIS Plan reviews. The more information that you take with you and have about what supports have assisted you over the previous year, the more likely it is that these supports will be continued.
It is also important to have ‘evidence’ for why you might need an increase or change in your funded supports. The NDIS also recommends that to support these requests, participants ask for NDIS Plan Review Assessments and Reports from your current support providers to take with you to the NDIS Plan Review meetings.

Allied Health Professionals are key to helping you improve your independence, safety and overall activity levels. Allied Health Professionals are also key in providing supporting documentation to the NDIS on your behalf. This can be in relation to request for Assistive Technology, Assistance Animals, Housing, Vehicle Modifications and Complex Home Modifications.
