What is the vestibular system? The easy answer: The system that controls where your brain thinks your head is in space. Small organs within the inner ear along with a few cranial nerve make up the vestibular system. It can be affected by things such as the common cold, flying in an aeroplane, infections, and loose particles within the inner ear organs. Symptoms of vestibular disorders typically are dizziness or vertigo. Vestibular conditions are not very well-known or common in the general population, and most people would not think to discuss these concerns with a physiotherapist. Physios are trained in treating conditions affecting the vestibular system. Whether you require a simple manoeuvre to reduce your vertigo, or more specific vestibular system retraining, our physios are happy to assist.
